ASPECT Studios is an international design practice, built from a global team of landscape architects, urban designers, architects, wayfinding specialists, strategists, and graphic designers. With offices in Australia, China, the Middle East and the UK, they are influential, city-shaping leaders, recognised globally for what they design and how they think.
ASEPCT Studios approached Harley Johnston Design to plan and design their new website. Working closely with the marketing team as well as directors we discussed limitations of the old website and desires for the new site. Having an easy to use site for both the internal team and end users was a key consideration. The new website houses three regions (China coming soon) displaying different content for different audiences all controlled through one easy to use CMS.
Clarity underpinned by functionality
When displaying content ASPECT Studios wanted to avoid a typical grid and bring some life into how the projects and people were presented. I developed a concept of different width tiles that still align to the underlying grid but also align along the bottom, echoing the horizon in a landscape.
For both the people and project pages we developed a set of filters that allows users to quickly find relevant information. Filtered content is presented in a more traditional grid to offer a quicker comparison between tiles.
Mobile design was given optimisied to make the most of the screen and allow the projects to shine. The intro image allows the ASPECT Studios team to use large photos portrait images to showcase the work. Longer text is abridged and users can read more if they chose.
A global team made up of distinguished studios
The website also features a dedicated page for each studio to highlight the team members and show what is happening behind the scenes. Each studio page has common elements but also allows for flexibility to let visitors know what the studio is up to. The studio pages list all team members as well as featuring recent work and news articles.
Attracting new talent is currently a challenge for all businesses, with this in mind we designed a careers page that highlights all that ASPECT Studios has to offer.
For the leadership team at ASPECT Studios a section on the website was designed that loads leaders in a random order each time, to give each leader the chance of appearing first. There is a set of filters for both leadership level and locations. Each leader has a page that talks about their philosophy and history as well as related projects and news articles.
As a collective studio of over 200 people ASPECT Studios has a lot of news and publishing articles is done frequently. A news section was developed with search and filtering functionality and an easy to use, flexible system for the in house team to use. The news section has quickly grown into a rich resource of articles focused on landscape architecture and the work of ASPECT Studios.
